A Racer's Redemption & Hearing Story
Posted by Hammers Hearing Care Center on August 14, 2015
Who doesn't love a great comeback story. How about a unique one that attributes a return to racing after a 20-year absence from the use of hearing aid technology? For 61-year old Kurt Guillot, a patient at Audibel Hearing Centers in North Florida, his Audibel hearing aids have allowed him to optimally communicate with his pit crew while back in the driver's seat during races. Now a contending racer in the Gulf Coast Racing Series, Kurt races against many other racers that are around forty years younger than him.
Kurt began his professional racing career in 1972 at twenty-four years old where he competed for eighteen years before his hearing loss struggles caused him to stop racing at forty-two years old. With hearing loss due to overexposure to noise being a common ailment of racers, Kurt wasn't aware of the extent of his hearing loss until he mt with his nephew, Tom Guillot, owner of Audibel Hearing Centers in North Florida. There Kurt received in-the-ear style of hearing aid technology which allowed him to hear his pit crew while racing at speeds of 140 mph! As shown in the photo above, his car is emblazoned with the logos of the business that helped him improve hearing hearing. While Kurt is racing his nephew and hearing specialist, Tom Guillot, passes out free hearing protection to race fans to help reduce the impact of noise exposure at races, which reaches up to 140 decibels.
We are excited to help in celebrating this comeback story as a part of the Audibel nation-wide network of hearing care professionals. We want to share in the success of Kurt's racing comeback as well as the awareness that is being created for the opportunities that hearing aid technology can provide.
